Unterwegs mit Sanuk II
15 Mai, 2010 | Kategorie: Segeln 2009 | 41 KommentareWir sind wieder einmal in der Bennerbay, heute soll ja unser Autopilot kommen, doch am Vormittag heisst es: “ Wir wissen nicht wo er ist, vielleicht auf dem Lastwagen der heute kommen soll2, na gut wieder zurück aufs Boot. Hier gibt es wenigstens freies Internet, wir schauen wo sich unsere Freunde mit ihren Booten so herumtreiben und wirklich die Sanuk II fährt heute von den BVI’s zu den USVI’s. Schnell schicken wir ein Mail und bereits am Nachmittag haben wir eine Antwort, wir treffen uns morgen am Ankerplatz bei Great James Island. Kurz vor fünf, bevor das Geschäft zusperrt, ( das sind die liberalen Öffnungszeiten, wie man uns ja in der Heimat einreden will) fragen wir wieder mal nach unserem bestellten Autopiloten. Und er ist da! Endlich!
Am nächsten Vormittag fahren wir dann die zwei Meilen bis Great James Island und sehen die Sanuk II bereits von weitem. Eine viertel Stunde später sitzen wir bereits bei Eva und Josef im Cockpit, es gibt ja viel zu erzählen, wir haben uns fast ein halbes Jahr nicht gesehen. Abends sitzen wir wieder zusammen, heimische Klänge von Strauss untermalen unser gemeinsames Essen, wir beschließen am nächsten Tag gemeinsam nach St John in die Mahobay zu fahren.
Die Mahobay liegt im Nationalpark, pünktlich um Fünf erscheinen die Parkranger zum Kassieren, der eine fragt uns nach der Flagge die wir fahren, so eine hätte er noch nie gesehen. Stolz antworten wir: “ Österreich, wenn er noch eine sehen will, braucht er nur zum nächsten Boot fahren.“
Diesmal sind wir mit dem Kochen dran, gegessen wird im grösseren Cockpit der Sanuk II. Doch zuerst müssen wir die sintflutartigen Regenfälle abwarten, die niedergehen, auch während des Essens waschelt es wie aus Kübeln. Trotzdem ein weiterer gelungener Abend.
Am nächsten Vormittag erwandern wir gemeinsam eine Zuckermühle aus der dänischen Periode. Nachmittags trennen sich unsere Wege, wir fahren zurück nach Great James Island, während die Sanuk II St John umrundet. Wir verbringen noch das restliche Wochenende bei Great James Island, wo wir Rolf und Erni von der Xantus näher kennen lernen. Die beiden Schweizer sind schon fünf Jahre mit kurzen Unterbrechungen in der Karibik unterwegs.
Montag brechen wir dann endlich in die BVI’s auf. In Soper’s Hole klarieren wir ein, der Beamte sieht aus dem Fenster und fragt uns wo unser Schiff sei, er müsse es doch sehen. Wir fragen warum, er meint es hat 628 Grosstons, als wir ihm auf das Komma hinter dem 6er aufmerksam machen, lächelt er nur noch mitleidig.
Dienstag segeln wir nach Peter Island, wo wir dann bis Freitag eingeweht werden, es pfeift mit fünfundzwanzig Knoten, wir liegen geschützt zwischen Peter Island und Keycay, erforschen die umliegenden Strände, wenn es nicht gerade wieder regnet. Ja auch hier in der Karibik gibt es die Eisheiligen, es friert zwar nicht, aber es schüttet mehrmals am Tag.
